Calan Gaeaf

Calan Gaeaf is the name of the first day of winter in Wales. The night before is Nos Calan Gaeaf or Ysbrydnos, when spirits are abroad. People avoid churchyards, stiles, and crossroads, since spirits are thought to gather there.
