Budgie (band)

Budgie is a rock and roll band from Cardiff, Wales. Formed in 1968, their original line up consisted of Burke Shelley (bass, vocals), Tony Bourge (guitar), and Ray Philips (drums).

Their self-titled debut album being released in 1971 followed by Squawk in 1972. The album that followed ensured their place in rock and roll history, Never turn Your Back on a Friend (1973), spawning the rock anthem "Breadfan" — later covered by thrash metal merchants Metallica — and the excellent track "Parents".

The band disbanded in 1983 then reformed in 1999 and is still playing concerts. The reunion was the subject of much faux hype by Mark Radcliffe and Lard on their Radio 1 show, but the pair then "forgot" to do their special Budgie day.
