Binche is a municipality located in the Belgian province of Hainaut. On January 1st, 2004 Binche had a total population of 32,227 (15,461 males and 16,766 females). The total area is 60.66 km² which gives a population density of 531.27 inhabitants per km².
In 2003, the Carnival of Binche was proclaimed one of the Masterpieces of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO.
The motto of the city is "PLVS OVLTRE" ("Plus Oultre" => Old french meaning "Further"), which was the motto of Charles V
