Beatport

Beatport is a U.S.-based online music store based in Denver, Colorado that specializes in dance music and remixes. It offers new releases and classic tracks from several hundred labels and thousands of artists. The tracks are categorized by genre such as house music, trance music, electronica. Visitors may listen to previews of tracks, which are available for individual purchase through immediate download similar to the iTunes music store. Vistors can purchase individual tracks, as well as complete lists of tracks from DJs who provide "top ten" lists to Beatport. Labels are paid on a royalty basis from the downloads.

All of Beatport's tracks are available as MP3, MP4, and wav formats. The MP3 files are encoded with a bit rate of 320 kbit/s. Beatport performs its own encoding into the download formats, with the goal of providing for a uniformity of the product.

Beatport launched in January 2004. Beatport launched version 2.0 of its web site in January 2005. The web interface of the Beatport site is in Macromedia Flash.
