Battle of Marignano
The battle of Marignano took place on 13 and 14 September, 1515, at a location 16 km south east of Milan, during the Italian Wars of Francis I of France.
On one side were the French and their Venetian allies and on the other the Swiss Confederation. It was fought to take control of the duchy of Milan from the Swiss.
Marignano established the superiority of artillery and cavalry over the until then invincible tactics of Swiss infantry.
