The Battle of Chaldiran was a military conflict that occurred on 23 August 1514 and ended with a decisive military victory of the Ottoman Empire over the Safavids. As a result the Ottomans gained control over the eastern half of Anatolia. The Ottoman troops were a more well equipped army numbering 120,000, while the Iranian were some 70,000. Shah Ismail I of Iran was wounded and almost captured in the battle.
