Art Shell

Arthur Shell (born November 26, 1946 in Charleston, South Carolina, USA) is a former American football player and coach in the NFL who also holds the distinction of being the first African-American head coach in modern NFL history, and second only to Fritz Pollard. He was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1989.

Shell was a prominent member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc., the first intercollegiate Greek-letter fraternity established for African Americans.
