Antti Aarne (1867 - 1925) was a Finnish folklorist. With Stith Thompson from the United States, Aarne developed the AT-number system of classifying folktales, first published in 1910. ("AT" stands for "Aarne and Thompson".) This system was criticized by Vladimir Propp of the Formalist school of the 1920s.
