Andrew Irvine

Andrew "Sandy" Irvine (born April 8, 1902) was one of the two mountaineers (the other being George Mallory) who attempted to make the first ascent of Mount Everest on June 8, 1924, almost three decades before the successful summit of Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay. Unfortunately the two mountaineers never returned to camp that day, and it is still uncertain if they reached the top of the highest mountain in the world.

In 1999, Mallory's body was found at around 28,000' by an American expedition. Irvine's body has yet to be found. Many have speculated that Irvine may have been carrying one of the two cameras that the pair were known to have been carrying on the attempt. Experts from Kodak have stated that if one of the cameras is found with film, there is a good chance that the film could be developed to produce "printable images" due to the nature of the black and white film that was used.
