All-American Girls Professional Baseball League
With the advent of World War II reaching America, and in order to maintain baseball in the public eye whilst the majority of able men were away, Baseball started a new professional league with women players. Principal differences with the men's game were in the size of diamond, pitching styles and ball size. The players were also required to wear short skirts during play, lipstick at all times, preferably to have long hair and to never wear slacks or trousers at any time.
The 1992 film A League of Their Own, although fictionalised, covers the founding of this league.
