A'Lelia Walker

A'Lelia Walker (1885-August 16, 1931) was an African-American business woman and patron of the arts. She was born Lelia McWilliams Robinson Wilson Kennedy but changed her name while attending Knoxville College in Tennesee.

In 1919 she inherited a very successful hair care and beauty supply business from her mother Madame C.J. Walker. During the 1920's she played host to many important artists of the Harlem Renaissance. Her business began to suffer in 1929 with the beginning of the Great Depression. She died in 1931 while hosting a birthday party for a friend.
